What is the Big Cardboard Sleep Out?
This October, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers are joining forces to tackle homelessness in Kent.
They’re going to hold a sponsored sleep out – possibly the biggest one the county has ever seen – to raise money for the charity Porchlight.
Between 2,500 and 3,500 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers will put themselves in the shoes of someone who’s homeless by sleeping outside with nothing but cardboard for protection.
It’s guaranteed to be both fun and cold, and will also be an eye-opening experience about what people who live and sleep on the streets have to go through every day.
Why are they doing it?
Wherever you look, homelessness is on the rise.
Last year, Porchlight worked with 834 people sleeping on the streets of Kent. Five years ago, that number was just 148.
Often, Porchlight is their only lifeline… but it relies on money donated by generous members of the public.
Money raised by Kent Scouts Big Cardboard Sleep Out could make a massive difference to the help Porchlight can give to people who are homeless and vulnerable.
8 Scouts and 2 leaders took part and slept in cardboard boxes on 12th &13th October with a Target to raise £250
